Smart Data for Energy Summit

  • September 14-15, 2026
  • AIA Global Campus HQ, Washington D.C.

Event Overview

The 4th Annual Smart Data for Energy Summit is a senior-level educational and networking Summit, designed as a highly interactive forum that provides an interchange of in-depth knowledge, and serves as a catalyst for collaboration across large built environments that share the common goal of leveraging smart, data-driven capabilities to support energy optimization goals throughout the planning, design, build, retrofit, management, and daily operations and maintenance phases.

These sectors include:

Higher Education Campuses, Hospitals & Healthcare Systems, Federal Facilities, and Large Commercial Campuses

About the Smart Data for Energy Summit

Topics to be covered

  • Understanding how facilities leaders want to build, operate, and maintain their campuses and facilities energy ecosystems in the near future and what they really want advanced data-driven capabilities to do for them and their teams
  • How advanced digital tools can be applied to create greater energy efficiency in the early design, engineering and construction phases and carried through the entire project delivery
  • Overcoming fragmentation of systems across OT and IT: What data infrastructure, integration readiness, and legacy system compatibility solutions owners need to think through before investing in new capabilities
  • Doing more with the data you already have: how can owners and operators leverage their current data streams in a way that provides greater value and insight to help them optimize their energy ecosystems
  • Insight into emerging use cases of LLMs interfaces and AI agents being developed by internal facilities operators in higher education and healthcare and within leading academic research institutions
  • The tech stack needed, and available options, to make AI enabled applications work in current legacy buildings and across campus energy ecosystems.
  • Cyber-physical safety disciplines for a digitally connected IT /OT built environment
  • Emerging AI governance, liability, and contracting frameworks for autonomous building systems: who is responsible when AI controls your building’s energy operations?

With the continual evolution of leveraging data to support the built environments’ energy ecosystems, from decision-making in capital planning, design and construction, to facilities management and daily O&M needs, the agenda dedicates several panels to the perspective of campus and facility owners to discuss their respective goals for improving their energy efficiencies and facilities optimization, their current challenges with what they have, and how they believe that smart, data-driven capabilities could better help them throughout the above phases.

These panels will help ground the technical sessions that will focus on tackling these real-world challenges while educating owners / operators on the emerging data-driven technologies landscape, and how they can best optimize their current systems and processes while preparing for the utilization of capabilities based on LLMs and AI agents in the future.  The summit assumes that no one has their systems fully optimized and it is a work in progress for most.

Further, this multi-sector, multi-subject matter expertise focused summit will help enhance cross sector collaboration while expanding professional networks for future information sharing among all participants.

Gain Knowledge & Insight

For facility, campus, and building energy stakeholders, you will walk away with knowledge gained from our senior-level speakers and attendees to help you improve the energy optimization of your built environment. For industry innovators, you will walk away with a deep understanding of the current challenges, needs, and initiatives across a variety of stakeholders from healthcare, higher education, federal and commercial campuses, and learn about where your solution or service may be best applied.

Build Partnerships

The Summit is designed to bring together a variety of stakeholders from across multiple sectors in order to expand professional networks and forge partnerships with persons you may not have necessarily had the opportunity to engage with yet. You will also discover the latest technologies and trends driving solutions for energy optimization in large built environments during our ample networking time throughout both days.

Influence

Share your own insight and knowledge during our interactive sessions. Designed as an interactive ‘Town Hall’ forum, all attendees are encouraged to engage in dialogue and discussion with each other and the speakers during presentations and beyond.
